September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

We would like to take a few minutes to remind you of some resources available to you, your families, and/or other team members. Life is precious, as is our mental and physical wellbeing. It is important that we all support one another, are aware of the resources available, and seek or offer help when needed. There is no single cause for suicide. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention provides good information about what to look for on their website. If you or anyone in your life is considering taking their life, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255. You can call any time, day or night.

By calling the toll-free number, 866.248.4096, you, or a member of your household, including children living away from home, can receive support in managing a variety of circumstances. When you call, a specialist will listen to your needs and connect you to the appropriate resources; for example, counselor, clinician, or financial advisor. You can also visit www.liveandworkwell.com: Access code: MedVet, an interactive website offering tools and resources to support your wellbeing. Please understand that you may need to wait a few weeks to get an appointment, just as our clients sometimes need to wait for some of our specialty services. If you have an emergency, please call 911 and immediately seek appropriate emergency medical care.

Being informed about the signs of suicide can help save a life. Being willing to ask for, or offer, help is yet another way to make a difference. Most importantly, if you need support, know that it is absolutely okay to ask for it. Today might be the day you make a difference in someone's life by reaching out and offering your support or a helping hand. Please take care of yourselves and each other. It can make all the difference.
